Can you give us a quick overview of what Caltrol, an Emerson Impact Partner, does and the industries you serve?

Bill Flader

Caltrol is an intermediary between manufacturers and end-users in several different industries. We cater to the petroleum industry, the utility industry, food producers, and manufacturers — pretty much anyone involved in industrial-type work. What we do is called flow management and flow engineering.

Essentially, we automate and optimize the process of things flowing through pipes. So, if anything flows through a pipe, we usually play a role in regulating that process or providing the equipment to make it more efficient.

Most of the customers we help are Fortune 500-type companies in refining, petroleum, food, chemicals, and biosciences.

US Cloud

Why did you choose US Cloud as a partner?

Bill Flader

We were looking for a cloud-based partner who could help us create a system where customers could log in, we could log in, and we could grant permissions necessary to control the process. At the same time, we needed to provide immediate access to data regarding customer assets. That worked out really well with US Cloud.

Customers can now view their assets and track inspections or calibrations immediately — on their phone, iPad, or computer. It’s been a great solution.

US Cloud

What made the cloud solution stand out to you?

Bill Flader

We found that US Cloud could support everything we needed and deliver a solution that allowed a limited but scalable number of users. Right now, we have several hundred users, including both customers and field personnel. The easy accessibility of the cloud-based solution is what led us to US Cloud.

Security is obviously important — we’re dealing with nuclear plants and customers who demand confidentiality. US Cloud supports those needs.

How are your customers benefiting from the system?

Bill Flader

As we’ve expanded our use of the system, customers have become more specific in their needs — asking, “Can I get this report in a different format?” or “Can I reorganize this data?” Having flexibility in the reporting structure, and being able to easily make those adjustments, has been very important.

And having a high percentage of uptime is absolutely critical. When you’re out doing a plant survey with four or five people accessing information, everything has to work. We’ve had real success there. I don’t know the exact number, but it has to be 99-point-something percent uptime.

US Cloud

What has your experience been like with support from US Cloud?

Bill Flader

The ticketing system is very responsive. We open a ticket, and we usually hear back almost immediately. There’s typically a technician actively working on the issue — trying to resolve it or figure out what might be causing it. That level of responsiveness has been crucial for us.
